Our work in Belarus
Since the rigged presidential election in 2020, Belarus has been experiencing unprecedented repression. Libereco has been working with local partners to promote human rights in Belarus since 2009. We are one of only a few NGOs providing comprehensive support to victims of political persecution in Belarus, including access to medical treatment, legal counselling, and psycho-social support.
As part of our solidarity campaign #WeStandBYyou, hundreds of European parliamentarians have already taken on godparenthoods for political prisoners. Because of our work, Alexander Lukashenko’s autocratic regime has classified our Instagram and X accounts as “extremist”.

How to support political prisoners in Belarus
It is becoming increasingly difficult to support political prisoners in Belarus, as the authorities are trying everything they can to break solidarity. Nevertheless, there are still ways in which you can support these people even from abroad!
#WeStandBYyou: Godparenthoods for political prisoners in Belarus
We have launched the solidarity campaign #WeStandBYyou to support political prisoners and their families. As part of the campaign, several hundred MPs have already taken over a godparenthood for a prisoner in Belarus.
Medical aid for released political prisoners
We support victims of state violence who need special assistance on their road to recovery. With donations and third-party funds, we organise medical treatments for released political prisoners in exile.
Legal Help: Legal counselling for politically persecuted Belarusians
For Belarusians who have been forced to leave their home country due to political persecution and repression or who are planning to do so, we offer free support in matters of residence law.
