Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure are threatening to worsen the humanitarian situation drastically. The United Nations is warning of power cuts of up to 18 hours a day. This makes it all the more important to continue providing humanitarian aid without interruption. Support us in helping quickly and flexibly this winter!

Up to 18 hours a day without electricity

The humanitarian situation in Ukraine is extremely tense due to the ongoing Russian war of aggression and the targeted attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The Kharkiv region is particularly affected: ongoing acts of war, missile and drone attacks as well as artillery fire on numerous villages are causing ongoing refugee movements and exacerbating the humanitarian emergency.

During the winter season, Kharkiv’s residents are also confronted with a severely limited energy supply and increasing food insecurity. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, displaced families and rural communities are particularly affected. They often have limited means to stay warm, and their access to vital resources is severely restricted.

Our winter aid for the people of Kharkiv

As part of our winter relief efforts, Libereco provides immediate and targeted support to internally displaced people, the elderly, single parents, children and other vulnerable groups. Our winter aid aims to reduce winter-related mortality and health risks among vulnerable groups. The project also makes an important contribution to ensuring food security in Kharkiv.

Our winter aid includes the following activities, among others:

    • Rural households are provided with sufficient firewood for the entire winter.
    • Our soup kitchen prepares hot meals during prolonged power cuts and delivers them to affected people in the residential areas.
    • Vulnerable groups are provided with essential goods such as blankets, gas stoves and food parcels as required.

Locally embedded through long-standing partnerships

Libereco has been working in Ukraine since 2014. Since February 2022, we have greatly expanded our relief efforts in Ukraine. Thanks to long-standing partnerships, we are embedded in the local community and can respond quickly to emerging needs. With our partner WBWU, in 2024, we provided food and hygiene products for several weeks to over 1,400 internally displaced persons in Kharkiv and people in remote locations. In addition, our emergency service has already carried out over 20 missions to provide people with essential supplies immediately after their homes were shelled.

Many thanks for your support!

We depend on your support to continue responding flexibly and quickly to local needs. Thank you very much for your donation!
