Psychosocial Support for Humanitarian Workers and Volunteers

Our psychosocial support programme provides individual psychosocial support and empowers medical professionals, civil society workers and therapists to effectively help traumatised people.

SITUATION

The war in Ukraine is leaving deep scars: according to the WHO, more than 10 million people are in need of psychological support. Many of them are humanitarian workers, distributing aid or evacuating people. They themselves are under extreme stress. To make an effective contribution to trauma healing in Ukraine, we began developing a psychosocial support programme in 2023.

OUR GOAL

OUR GOAL

Our programme aims to strengthen the resilience of humanitarian, psychosocial and medical workers so that they can continue to provide effective assistance to those affected by Russia’s war of aggression. Targeted training for therapists, medical personnel and humanitarian aid workers also serves to embed knowledge of how to deal with traumatised people in humanitarian and medical structures in the long term and to achieve a sustainable impact.

HOW WE HELP

We train medical staff and civil aid workers in trauma-sensitive and effective ways of dealing with patients and recipients of humanitarian aid. We support them in their daily work through supervision.

We build the resilience of humanitarian, psychosocial and medical workers through individual and group therapy. This enables them to continue their important work of protecting civilians in Ukraine in the long term.

We support Ukrainian therapists in developing their professional skills by offering specialised training and supervision, enabling them to provide effective treatment for complex symptoms such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. In the long term, this will help to increase the capacity for psychosocial support in Ukraine.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

With your donation, you enable us to continue treating traumatised people in Ukraine. Thank you very much for your help!
