Growing Resilience: Seed Support for Sustainable Livelihoods

Due to the Russian war of aggression, people had to flee Shyrokivska in Mykolaiv region at the beginning of 2022. In 2024, the land has been cleared of mines and many residents have returned to the community. However, the occupation and the displacement of the population have interrupted the cycle of seed production from their own harvest. Many vulnerable people live in the region today, i.e. older people, internally displaced persons and people with low incomes. They need support with high-quality seeds to successfully restart their agricultural activities and regain self-sufficiency.

Our project is dedicated to enhancing food security and fostering economic independence for the people of Shyrokivska. By providing high-quality seeds and conservation kits, we support affected communities in restoring their agricultural livelihoods. This initiative plays a vital role in strengthening local resilience and reducing reliance on humanitarian aid.

We are supporting 732 households in the municipality of Shyrokivska by providing high-quality seeds and preservation supplies to help store their harvest for the winter. Each seed set includes over 20 local, reproducible varieties, ensuring long-term sustainability. Beneficiaries also have access to expert agronomic advice, both on-site and via WhatsApp. By producing seeds from their harvest, they can secure future crops and gradually restore their self-sufficiency.
