Andrei worked as a freelance journalist for various independent media outlets and had already been the target of state repression before 2020. He was arrested for his reporting and sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for allegedly ‘promoting extremist activities’ and ‘defaming the president’. Andrei suffers from a number of chronic illnesses.
